So, upon my most recent listening of this song, it really sounds like a feminist song to me. It seems like a song about the constraints placed on women. Notice that the only important legged character in the film is a man. Yes, it is still a Disney animated movie where the girl wants the handsome (often white and successful) man, but I think this song is a feminist call. I might just be crazy.

I believe Ursula symbolizes the women of the past, Ariel’s father symbolizes patriarchy, and Ariel is the hope of feminism, and someone who dreams of a better, freer future.

Yeah, it’s sort of amazing, the thing I’ve most learned from following fuckbodyhate, is how narrow (no pun intended) the standard for womens’ bodies is. When you see things like this, it makes sense.
